100 days of love - To make you believe in love again

Easily one of the best and cutest romcoms ever made in Malayalam. The amazing chemistry between Balan(Dulqer) and Sheela(Nithya) makes the movie a real treat to watch. Dulqer and Sheela individually did full justice to their roles. It is not just the hero and heroine who seems to have an amazing chemistry, the other cast also gels in perfectly. Balans close friend Ummar(Shekar) made the whole movie a way more lively one with his impeccable comic timing. In the first half when the movie seemed to be going a little dull it was Aju Varghese who came to the rescue as Romach, Balans colleague although a short role, he made the viewer’s get back into the movie again. Jacob(kora from ABCD) with his short cameo also added to the comedy factor with his “freak/yo-yo” cochin “dude”. Rahul Madhav as the classy villain/hero (depends on the perspective) has given us a very elegant performance. The other cast also did an amazing job from Balans ex-girlfriend to the foreigners in the last scene.

The directors love for Hollywood romcoms is very evident in all the shots and all the clichés in the movie, but what makes this movie a must watch is the brilliance of the director into making these clichés work without making the viewers bored. And he hasn’t exactly copied everything but took the best out of everything and made better changes in a lot of places and these changes have played an amazing role in making this one of the best romocoms ever in Malayalam. The visuals and the art direction also sets in the mood and increases the impact of the whole movie. The only set back I can think of is the music by Govind Menon, it isn’t bad but personally I feel he hasn’t given his all in to this movie. Although the track “hridayathin niramayi” is addictive the more we listen to it, the bgm and the other songs just remain okay.

A very relatable story, for every urbanite malayalee, who has been in love, who has been dumped, who has been friend-zoned, who has climbed out of the zone and that is what makes the movie even more special. You can connect yourself with the characters, maybe not through you but through somebody in your friend circle, in the end that is the whole success of the movie and that is why you should watch the movie even if you are not a romcom fan, this is not the first romcom of the Malayalam movie industry but I’m pretty sure a lot of movies would try out this pattern in the future. Hats off to Jenuse Mohammed for this different treatment. For hitting my funny bones with the names of the character. for reminding us that you need not be the hero to win over “the one” and finally for asking us to stay original.

So dosen’t matter if you are not a romcom fan but if you want to lighten up your mood or start believing in love again, then this is the movie for you. And for strong romcom fans you can watch this over and over again because it has the right amount of romance, comedy, drama and it does stay ORIGINAL.
